Utilities & Power Grids

INTRODUCTION

Prevention is better than cure. As a company, we are strongly involved in delivering new solutions for electrical assets monitoring and taking a journey to become an insight and data-driven enterprise. Thriving on data, we rely on integrated electronics applied to electrical assets, in-depth information on asset conditions, and advanced diagnostics and alarms generated with AI algorithm. All in order to increase the efficiency, longevity and safety of our products.

PREDICTIVE AND CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE

Pry-Cam Systems

Pry-Cam is a breakthrough technology for PD diagnostic services. Thanks to its exclusive wireless technology, Pry-Cam instruments detect, acquire, process and classify Partial Discharge (PD) phenomena without any contact with the equipment under test, allowing on-line measurements with the highest accuracy and safety for operators. The PRY-CAM System database can host more than three million measurements, classified and stored, and Prysmian was the first one to do it.

Each PRY-CAM SYSTEM solution can be configured based on the customers’ specific requirements in terms of parameters to be monitored to fulfil their specific maintenance and asset management strategies. One or more products for integrated combined monitoring can be installed within the same cabinet, on MV and HV equipment: cables, joints, terminations, switchgear, transformers, electrical machines.

Fiber optic base sensing technologies

Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) and Real Time Thermal Rating (RTTR) connected with Prysmian Common Web infrastructure, allows real time temperature monitoring and load prediction, and in that way maximizes utilization of the circuit, detects hot spots and drives alarms for other systems such as cooling. RTTR extends monitoring functionality and allows the client to forecast network behavior under extreme or emergency situations.

24 h Support

Underground cables are generally so reliable that it is easy to take them for granted, they are hidden from view and rarely cause problems. At Prysmian we believe that the effective maintenance of underground cables forms the foundation of a successful power business, as smooth operation is essential to the overall performance of a power network.

Maintenance faults on power networks can cost millions, but with a new focus and investment in the pro-active management of circuits, specialized 24h support organized by Prysmian is helping power utilities to save money. We have dedicated a nationwide team of experienced engineers, jointers and oil mechanics to focus on maintenance works, and also invested in new plant and equipment to provide a network management service that is on call to respond to any emergencies that may occur.

END OF LIFE CYCLE MANAGEMENT

Oil Degradation by Bacteria System

A significant part of the Dutch power transmission grid consists of HV oil insulated cables.  Oil cables pose an environmental pollution risk, require expensive and complex management and excavation work. The Oil Degradation by Bacteria System (ODB System®) is a patented biotechnological approach to remediate decommissioned oil-filled cables. This unique solution for Dutch oil cable grids is provided for Prysmian by Swiss company TIBIO.  The ODB System technology acts specifically in the paper matrix, which contains up to 75% of the whole oil in the cable. Thanks to this application, more than 95 % of the oil in the paper matrix and 100% of the oil inside oil channels are eliminated. The ODB System can be applied to all types of Oil Filled cable, and since 2009 to date, has been successfully used for bioremediation of about 120 km of cable. After treatment, cables no longer present an environmental hazard.
