High Voltage Project Engineering

High Voltage Project Engineering is the starting point for HV projects. In this department, the customer request is studied and technical solutions towards this request are defined and could comprise many different disciplines like the definition of the propriate cables and accessories, laying configuration, definition of the earthing method, the soil conditions, the functional requirements, the available norms and standards and the mechanical aspects. The correlation between the various aspects of a cable system makes the system design process an iterative process where experience and broad knowledge is mandatory.

Engineering Consultancy Scope

Project engineering services focusses on the integrity of a cable system considering the functional requirements. For this goal, Prysmian Project Engineering can advise, assist or design the following sub-items related to power cable systems:

  • Current rating calculations, continuous, cyclic and/or emergency, in air, buried, in ducts, in HDD’s, in tunnel, single or multiple circuits, etc;
  • Thermo-mechanical calculations;
  • Short circuit calculations;
  • Cable system characteristics calculations;
  • Selection and advice on accessories;
  • Overall system design, including earthing design;
  • Requirements towards metallic support structures for cables and accessories;
  • Guidance on soil surveys;
  • Advice on Factory Acceptance Tests, Site Acceptance Test and Type Tests;
  • Advice on maintenance;
  • Design of integrated optical fiber systems for monitoring purposes;
  • Reversed engineering on existing circuits;
  • Hydraulic calculations for LPOF circuits;
  • Total cost of ownership calculations/system optimization.
