A revolution in mechanical protection
Prysmian has developed and patented a groundbreaking solution that offers better mechanical protection than conventional steel-sheathed cables – and at a lower cost. At the same time, the functional advantages of cables without sheathing are preserved.
How it works
With its radically new design, the AIR BAG™ absorbs the kinetic energy of a shock by deforming on impact. This prevents residual energy from damaging vulnerable elements of the cable, such as the insulation and screens. This problem often occurs with metal sheaths and can compromise the integrity of the insulation, reducing reliability in the longer term.
The flexible AIR BAG™ can be used for single and multi-core cables and is fully compatible with traditional connection and termination components.
Depending on the specific applications, different architectures are possible and the use immensely improves the mechanical resistance, without significant change in weight and rigidity.
Design
Together, the polymeric extruded layers as a system provide highly effective protection against the impact of impacts and shocks.
